The Monastery Of The Ascension is a community of fifteen Benedictine monks which has been in Southern Idaho since 1965. We live a life of prayer, work and reading accordng to the Rule of St. Benedict and try to serve the Catholic Church and the people of southern Idaho through various ministries which include parochial work, retreats, teaching and scholarship, ecumenical activities, counseling and spiritual direction, and social service.

HOW TO VISIT US

In addition to the informal visits that travelers and friends of the monastery make a various times, the Monastery of the Ascension offers several ways in which a person can experience the monastic way of life:

  • 1. Personal and group retreats for those who wish to have a special time for prayer, reflection, and an opportunity for spiritual guidance. [e-mail to norbert@idahomonks.org]

  • 2. Monastic Living Experience for those who wish to spend a longer period of time participating in the monastery’s prayer and work and in becoming more familiar with the monastic way of life. [e-mail to norbert@idahomonks.org]

  • 3. Vocational discernment for those men who wish to discern their calling from God in regard to the monastic way of life. These discernment stays may be from several days to several weeks in duration, depending on available space in the monastery and the circumstances of the one applying for the monastic living experience.   • 5:30 Evening Prayer
  • 8:00 Night Office
  • Saturday

  • 7:30 Morning Prayer
  • 8:00 Mass
  • 12:00 Midday Prayer
  • 5:30 Evening Prayer
  • 8:00 Vigils
  • In the morning and afternoon there is time for work and study. Each night from 8:00 until after Morning Prayer is a time of silence for rest, reading, reflection, and prayer.

    This is an opportunity for Roman Catholic men who are trying to attend to God’s call in their lives or who want to deepen their relationship with God. This program is intended for any Roman Catholic man who wants to spend some time in an environment of prayer to help keep focused on God’s presence and action in his life.

    While you are here, we offer room and board and a modest stipend as a sign of our appreciation. We cannot offer a salary. You remain responsible for your own expenses.
