Our Monastic Community

Father Norbert Novak, OSB
I came here in 1997. I had joined Mt. Angel Abbey in Oregon in 1957 and was ordained a priest in 1964. I studied theology at Mt. Angel Seminary, in Rome at Sant; Anselmo during the Second Vatican Council, and at St. Paul;s in Ottawa, Canada. For six years I taught theology at Mt. Angel Seminary; there followed a variety of pastoral assignments including parish work and chaplain to the Benedictine sisters in Yankton, SD. For almost twenty years I was a priest chaplain and a health care ethicist for the Providence Health System in Oregon. Personal health reasons led me back to the monastic environment where I share life and prayer and work with some monks whom I knew in Oregon and some new members here. My days are full with being the guestmaster of our ministry center, helping to arrange retreats and meeting spaces, meeting with retreatants, educational ventures to help Catholics appreciate our rich scriptural, moral and spirituality traditions and wisdom. I teach scripture and theology courses. I enjoy reading and being a vital part of a faith-community of Benedictine monks. E-MAIL Father Norbert |
